Rotherham United are considering a last-minute approach to sign Arsenal youngster Nathan Butler-Oyedeji, as discussions over a contract extension with the Gunners have stalled, according to sports Insider.

Butler-Oyedeji has been in impressive form for Arsenal’s U21 side in the Premier League 2, recording seven goals and six assists in just 10 matches. However, despite Arsenal’s injury issues at the senior level, the 22-year-old has struggled to find first-team opportunities under Mikel Arteta, making his senior debut in a 3-0 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League last January.

With uncertainty surrounding his future, Butler-Oyedeji has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium. He was previously associated with a transfer to the Swiss club FC Zurich, but that deal ultimately fell through.

Now, Rotherham United are exploring the possibility of a loan move before the winter transfer window closes, as they look to strengthen their attacking options. The London-born Nigerian forward has prior experience in lower divisions, having spent time on loan at Accrington Stanley and Cheltenham Town, where he made a combined 25 appearances.

Currently sitting 15th in League One and seven points off the playoff spots after 28 games, Rotherham sees Butler-Oyedeji as a crucial addition for the remainder of the season. Despite Rotherham’s interest, Arsenal remains eager to extend Butler-Oyedeji’s contract, though negotiations have recently stalled.

With just one day left before the transfer window closes, the academy graduate, who has been with Arsenal since the age of eight, will be keen to resolve his future and secure regular playing time.
