Gloria Williams, the mother of 8-year-old Kendrick Lee, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of injury to a child in connection with the tragic death of her son. The sentencing follows the grim discovery of Kendrick’s skeletal remains in an apartment, where he had been dead for nearly a year, alongside his siblings.

The case first came to light in October 2021, when a 15-year-old boy, one of Kendrick’s siblings, contacted authorities to report that his younger brother had been deceased for months. The teenager also revealed that he and his siblings had been living with Kendrick’s body in the apartment for an extended period. Deputies who responded to the scene found the apartment in deplorable conditions, with no furniture or bedding, and heavy infestations of cockroaches and flies.

According to investigators, Kendrick’s mother, Gloria Williams, had not been living with the children for months, and communication with her appeared to have been minimal. It was revealed that the children had suffered extreme abuse, and that Kendrick’s death was the result of a brutal beating by Williams’ boyfriend, Brian Coulter. The young boy’s siblings told authorities that Coulter had punched and kicked Kendrick until he stopped moving, leaving him with severe injuries, including black eyes. After Kendrick was rendered unconscious, Coulter allegedly covered his body with a blanket. Kendrick was last seen alive around Thanksgiving of 2020.

As the investigation unfolded, Williams and Coulter were both arrested and charged in connection with Kendrick’s death. Earlier this year, Coulter was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Prosecutors have described the case as one of the most horrific instances of child abuse they have ever encountered, noting the extreme neglect and violence endured by the children over the course of the ordeal.

Williams’ sentencing marks a tragic chapter in the case, bringing some form of closure to a family and community devastated by the unimaginable loss and suffering of an innocent child.
