Rapper Speed Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, has been rearrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force just two months after his release from detention.

This latest development follows his initial arrest on October 4, 2024, after a controversial video surfaced in which he allegedly defamed his fellow artist Burna Boy over his connection with embattled American rapper Diddy. Darlington was later granted bail on October 9, after spending five days in police custody.

However, in a new twist, Darlington’s legal team has expressed outrage over his rearrest, claiming that it stems from allegations of jumping bail, a charge they vehemently deny. According to his lawyers, the arrest was made on the orders of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau, following a performance by the rapper in Owerri.

In an official statement, Speed Darlington’s legal team explained that the rapper was unable to report to the police on the designated date due to a medical emergency that required him to seek treatment abroad. They clarified that he had made arrangements to return to Abuja, in consultation with his lawyer and with the knowledge of the police, stressing that it was never his intention to abscond.

The statement further condemned the rearrest, labeling the police action as both unnecessary and an abuse of authority, claiming that it was a deliberate attempt to embarrass and violate their client’s rights.

As the situation unfolds, Speed Darlington’s legal representatives are calling for the immediate release of their client and a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding his rearrest.
