Controversial Nigerian musician, Speed Darlington, has been arrested once again by the Nigerian police during a performance in Owerri, Imo State. The arrest, which took place on November 27, 2024, comes barely two months after the singer was released on bail following a five-day detention.

While the specific reasons behind this latest arrest have not been officially disclosed, Speed Darlington’s lawyer, renowned human rights activist Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the development in a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) page. Adeyanju revealed that the musician, whose real name is Darlington Okoye and who is also known by his stage name AKPI, was taken into custody by the police during his return performance in Owerri.

This arrest has come as a shock to many, especially since it follows closely on the heels of Darlington’s previous legal troubles. Just two months ago, the singer was detained for five days in early October after releasing a controversial video in which he mocked fellow musician Burna Boy. In the video, Darlington allegedly associated Burna Boy with American rapper Diddy, who had been embroiled in legal issues involving FBI investigations related to accusations of immoral exploitation. The video sparked a public outcry, leading to the artist’s swift arrest on October 4, 2024.

In the aftermath of his October arrest, Darlington claimed that his rights were violated while in police custody. A viral video shared online on October 17 depicted him detailing his experience behind bars, where he alleged mistreatment and misconduct by the authorities during his detention.

Despite the growing public scrutiny surrounding his legal battles, Speed Darlington’s arrest in Owerri indicates that unresolved issues may still be lingering. Sources close to the artist suggest that the musician may have more “scores to settle” with certain individuals, possibly related to ongoing personal or professional disputes.

This most recent incident has once again drawn attention to the artist’s turbulent relationship with the authorities and his controversial public persona. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen what legal steps will follow and how it will impact Darlington’s career moving forward.
