Indian billionaire Ratan Tata, who passed away on October 9, 2024, at the age of 86, made headlines by naming his dog, Tito, as a beneficiary of his £91 million estate. Known for his transformative leadership of the Tata Group, Tata’s will reflect his deep affection for his German shepherd, ensuring that Tito will receive “unlimited care.”
Tata’s comprehensive will, valued at approximately Rs 10,000 crore, allocates funds not only for his family and loyal staff but also for various charities and, notably, his beloved pet. The Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation (RTEF) is set to be the primary recipient of his vast fortune, with the majority of his assets, including stakes in Tata Sons and other companies, directed toward the foundation.
Among the beneficiaries are Tata’s close family members, including his brother Jimmy Tata and half-sisters Shireen and Deanna Jejeebhoy. Long-serving household staff members, such as his cook Rajan Shaw and butler Subbiah, are also included in the will, recognizing their dedicated service.
Tito, who was adopted by Tata 5-6 years ago, will continue to be cared for by Rajan Shaw, with financial resources secured in the will to ensure Tito’s lifelong wellbeing. This unique provision highlights Tata’s commitment to the care of his pet, making a statement about the bonds between humans and animals.
As the world remembers Ratan Tata for his significant contributions to business and philanthropy, his thoughtful legacy includes an enduring love for his canine companion.
