A man has been arrested in Belfast in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 34-year-old man in Dublin at the weekend.

Quam Babatunde, who was in the Irish asylum-seeking system, died after he was stabbed close to Grafton Street in Dublin in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A man was detained as he was preparing to board a ferry to Liverpool, according to Irish broadcaster RTÉ.

Gardaí (Irish police) said he is currently being detained at a police station in Northern Ireland. Another man has been arrested in Dublin.

A post-mortem examination has been completed but the results are not being released for operational reasons, gardaí said.

A second man, aged in his 30s, was seriously injured and taken to hospital for treatment.
