The Los Angeles Dodgers have claimed their eighth World Series championship, coming back from a five-run deficit to defeat the New York Yankees 7-6 in a thrilling Game 5 in the Bronx.
The Yankees took an early 5-0 lead with back-to-back home runs from Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm Jr., but the Dodgers rallied in the fifth inning, scoring five unearned runs thanks to key hits from Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Teoscar Hernández.
This historic win marks the first time a team has overcome a five-run deficit in a World Series clincher. Freeman tied the Fall Classic record with 12 RBIs, earning him the Most Valuable Player award.
Despite their early dominance, the Yankees were unable to secure their 28th championship title. Yankees manager Aaron Boone expressed the disappointment, saying, “This is going to sting forever.”
This World Series marked the 12th meeting between the Dodgers and Yankees, making it the most frequent matchup in history, though it was their first encounter in 43 years.
