In a surprising turn of events, Jack Sweeney, a college student known for tracking the private jet flights of high-profile figures such as Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, and Taylor Swift, has seen his accounts on Meta’s Threads platform abruptly suspended. This action comes as part of a broader crackdown on accounts that share publicly available flight data of some of the world’s wealthiest individuals.

Sweeney’s accounts, which included detailed tracking of jet movements for several celebrities and billionaires—including Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Kim Kardashian, and Kylie Jenner—were suspended over the past few days. Initially, Sweeney had managed to shift much of his jet-tracking activity from Twitter to Threads after a dispute with Musk, who had previously banned similar accounts.

In a post on his personal Threads account, Sweeney expressed his confusion over the suspensions, noting that only two accounts remained active: one tracking former President Donald Trump’s jet and another for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. However, shortly after Sweeney’s post, these accounts were also suspended, leaving him without any active jet tracking accounts.

Despite the fact that the data Sweeney shared is publicly available through the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, the sharing of this information has sparked backlash from the celebrity jet owners, who argue that it violates their privacy. Both Musk and Swift have publicly condemned Sweeney’s activities, with Musk labeling the accounts as “assassination coordinates” and Swift describing them as “stalking and harassing behavior.”

To date, neither Musk nor Swift has initiated formal legal action against Sweeney, but the mounting pressure has led to the suspension of his accounts without any prior notice or opportunity for appeal. In a conversation with Fortune, Sweeney revealed he received “zero” explanation for the suspensions, stating, “If I log in it’s just black.”

As social media platforms navigate the complexities of privacy and public information, the fate of Sweeney’s jet tracking accounts raises important questions about the balance between transparency and individual privacy rights.
