President Biden hosted the 2024 NBA champion Boston Celtics at the White House on Thursday, though he jokingly asked the team if they were indeed the Celtics. In his speech, he highlighted the tradition of celebrating sports’ ability to unite people and praised the Celtics’ core values of teamwork and hard work. The team received a warm welcome, with Biden even showing off his basketball skills by dribbling and passing the ball.
Meanwhile, the 2023 NBA champion Denver Nuggets missed their White House visit due to “scheduling issues.” Under Trump’s administration, no NBA champions visited, though he hosted teams like the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles. Biden’s event with the Celtics marked the first NBA visit since January 2023, when the Golden State Warriors came to the White House.
