Rapper NBA YoungBoy, whose real name is Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, has been sentenced to seven months in prison after being convicted on federal firearms charges. The 24-year-old artist’s conviction stems from a 2020 arrest in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, when police found multiple firearms during a video shoot involving Gaulden and his associates. At the time, the rapper was already on probation for other unrelated offenses, which aggravated the case.
The charges highlighted concerns over YoungBoy’s history of legal issues and his illegal possession of firearms. Prosecutors argued that this posed a significant risk to public safety. During the sentencing, the judge acknowledged both the seriousness of the offense and YoungBoy’s efforts to comply with legal proceedings in recent months. Having already served much of his sentence under house arrest, Gaulden will not face additional jail time if he continues to meet the terms of his probation.
Ahead of the court’s decision, NBA YoungBoy addressed the judge, expressing regret for his actions and pledging to focus on his career and family. “I’m ready to move on from this and keep going forward,” he stated. His legal team highlighted his productive time under house arrest, during which he released several albums and collaborated with a variety of artists.
The verdict has sparked mixed reactions within the hip-hop community. Many of YoungBoy’s fans took to social media to celebrate the outcome, with hashtags like #FreeYB trending in support. Fellow artists also praised the rapper’s perseverance throughout his ongoing legal challenges. However, some critics have raised concerns about the perceived leniency in the case, questioning whether celebrities are given special treatment compared to others facing similar charges.
