U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has issued a strong ultimatum to member countries of the BRICS alliance—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—demanding they refrain from creating or supporting any currency that could replace the U.S. dollar. In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump threatened that failure to comply would result in 100% tariffs on goods sold to the United States.

“We require a commitment from these countries that they will neither create a new BRICS currency nor back any other currency to replace the mighty U.S. dollar,” Trump stated, emphasizing that countries attempting to challenge the dollar’s dominance should “wave goodbye” to access to the U.S. economy.

Trump’s comments reflect ongoing concerns over discussions within BRICS about establishing a new currency to enhance trade among member nations, potentially diminishing the dollar’s role in international markets. He asserted that there is “no chance” the BRICS nations could successfully replace the dollar in global trade.

This warning underscores the geopolitical tensions surrounding currency supremacy and trade dynamics as the world grapples with shifting economic power. The U.S. dollar remains the dominant currency for international transactions, and Trump’s stance aims to safeguard its status against emerging alternatives.

As the BRICS nations consider their economic strategies, the implications of Trump’s message will likely reverberate through international trade discussions and relations with the United States.
