In a significant legal decision, Oklahoma executed Emmanuel Littlejohn, 52, on Thursday for his involvement in the 1992 murder of a convenience store owner. This action follows the state’s parole board advising against the death penalty and recommending that his life be spared.
Littlejohn was administered a lethal injection at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary and was pronounced dead at 10:17 a.m. His execution took place after Republican Governor Kevin Stitt chose not to reduce his sentence to life without parole, despite the board’s recommendation. Notably, one of Littlejohn’s co-defendants received a life sentence instead.
